BROCTON, N.Y. (WKBW) - Funeral services were held today for a veteran and local gay-rights activist killed in a highway accident last week.

36-year-old Darren Manzella died last Thursday when he was hit by an SUV while pushing his car along Route 490.

Manzella, an Army Sargent, was known for publicly criticizing the military's ”Don't Ask, Don't Tell” policy. He worked at the Veterans Crisis Center at the Canandaigua V.A.

Manzella will be buried in Chautauqua County with full military honors.
