BATAVIA, NY (WKBW) - The cleanup in Batavia is expected to last through the night after flash floods closed several roads and filled a few basements with water.
"Probably about 4, 4:30," recalled resident Jennifer Richenberg, "I heard a couple real good claps of thunder and then it just started down pouring. It was down pouring so hard I couldn't see the swing set in the backyard."
A few houses down from Richenberg's Ellicott Street home, State Route 63 was shut down after water filled the street below a railroad overpass.
"I've been here for seven years and I've never seen it rain this hard or have the bridges flood out like that," she said.
Power was knocked out to a few area residents. City officials described the outages as minor and scattered.
