HAMBURG, NY (WKBW) - A Hamburg Town Councilman being investigated for possible ethics violations sat in on Monday's board meeting.

Joe Collins was there to discuss his case in the open meeting at Hamburg Town Hall. That discussion, however, took place without him, behind closed doors in an executive session.

Board members said that it was necessary to protect others involved in the case.

Collins claims the ethics charges are baseless and politically motivated after he claimed a town employee is being overpaid because of her connections to Hamburg's Republican majority.

The council also took up the issue of a $15,000 stipend that Town Supervisor Steven Walter submitted for himself in the budget proposal. Despite some disagreement, the Town Board has not yet changed the proposal.
