BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - A fire broke out in a classroom before school started early Wednesday morning at Windom Elementary School in Orchard Park.

Officials say the fire started in a classroom in the rear of the building when a pile of clothing ignited. It is unclear what caused the clothing to catch fire, though a staff member was able to partially extinguish the fire before emergency crews arrived.

School officials have sent kids home and the school will remain closed Wednesday as officials assess the damage. All staff and students were unharmed in the blaze, and the fire remains under investigation.
