Smilin' Pit Bull Rescue Raided, Owner Charged with Animal Cruelty

Smilin' Pit Bull Rescue, at 610 Bowen Road in Elma, was raided Tuesday following an animal cruelty investigation, forcing SPCA officers and local law enforcement to seize five dogs.

SPCA Spokesperson Gina Browning, says the raid began early Tuesday morning.

The investigation followed numerous reports of adopted dogs from the shelter being denied veterinary care for injuries or illnesses from being in the group's care.

The seized dogs were taken to the SPCA shelter on Ensminger Road in Tonawanda.

A Facebook group was even made on January 11th entitled "The Truth About Smilin' Pit Bull Rescue," which includes numerous stories from people who've had negative experiences with the organization.

The owner, Eric Gray, is charged with animal cruelty. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 4th.
