Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - Hazmat crews spent much of Wednesday night and early Friday morning containing and cleaning-up a suspected chemical spill on Babcock Street near Clinton Street.

Hazmat crews, engineers, the DEC and National Fuel all responded to the scene on Wednesday evening.

First responders arrived at around six in the evening, and tell Eyewitness News they believe the leak started at a vacant building on Clinton Street.

A person on the scene said a pipe burst, causing water to leak. It mixed with kerosine, and the two leaked onto Babcock Street.

About a block of Babcock Street remains closed Thursday morning.
