East Amherst, N.Y. (WKBW) - Increasing workouts, changing your eating habits and losing weight in a short amount of time are all lofty goals that can be overwhelming.
"I tried to do everything at once," East Amherst Resident Karen Meltser said.
Channel 7 has been following Meltser on this healthy journey. After our interview back in the beginning of February, she tried to change all pesky habits. She quickly realized it was a bit too much and decided first things first.
"I took a step back and started tackling exercise. I started looking at classes and before this I wouldn't even go near the class for fear I wouldn't be able to keep up," Meltser said.
She now goes to the gym five days a week.
"I started at my own pace and now I work hard. Now, I have a good support system of girlfriends that say what are you doing this week," Meltser said.
Now, she said it is a bit easier to move on to other aspects of healthy living.
"With the exercise I had to start and maintain that. It's in my back pocket. Now, I can really concentrate on making good choices. I'm trying to cook healthy for my family," Meltser said.
Healthy Living Coach Rachel Miller has been working with Karen.
"So now it's moving on. She is ready to take next step and be more organized with planning out her meals,"
Karen has lost inches in her waist and some weight.
"I've been feeling good. I think It's a good example that my kids see I'm in my workout clothes," Miller said.
Karen said she is proud that she shed some of those pounds but weigh loss is no longer her main goal.
"I know that I want to be 50 and feeling great," Meltser said.
