Lockport, N.Y. (WKBW) - Officer Patricia Parete worked on the Buffalo police force when she was critically injured in an on the job shooting but Lockport is her home.
Parete died February 2, 2013, never recovering from the gunshot wound that left her paralyzed.
Joseph DiPasquale, a high school friend of Parete thought Roger Avenue Park in Lockport would be the perfect place to continue Parete's memory by renaming the park in her name.
He submitted a request to the City but his request was shot down by the City Council.
DiPasquale declined our request for an interview but he fired off a scathing email to Lockport Mayor Mike Tucker threatening to go all the way to the Governor's office to make the name change happen.
"We do want to honor Patty and we will honor Patty in some way it just might not be Rogers Avenue Park, maybe at the end of the day it is but right now the council just wants to set a policy first," explained Mayor Tucker.
Tucker says the City is in the process of forming a committee to come up with procedures for requests like these. There is no timeline for when a decision will be made.
