Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) - You may have heard of a bar crawl but you may have never heard of a bra crawl. That is because it was just recently started by local business owner Susan Morreale in hopes to raise awareness about breast cancer.

“I'm a breast cancer survivor and every October I like to do a fundraiser,” Morreale said.

Morreale owns ‘Her Story Boutique’. She is just one of more than 40 business along Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo that are participating.

“Bra decorating contest. Everybody comes on October 24th and go from business to business to check out everybody bra and vote on them,” Morreale said.

Joan Zoerb and her sister Joyce have owned Neo gifts on Elmwood for 30 years.

“It's just about making something beautiful and we did it with some pretty ribbons, silk, butterflies and crystals,” Zoerb said.

Amber Gray is an employee at Greek Restaurant Acropolis. She had a very unique theme in mind for her fancy bra.

”I based it on the Greek mythological symbol for medicine. That symbol is the sea serpent and angel wings. I tied it to breast cancer, bar crawl and our Greek restaurant,” Gray said.

Before they were decorated, a special company whose entire purpose is to help breast cancer patients donated each bra.

“A local boutique called "AuNaturel" who focuses on post mastectomy and cancer survivors have donated all the bras which is over 40 bras so we like to thank them for their support as well,” Ciara Morreale said.

Gretchen Monaco is a stylist at Kalista Salon. She decorated a flashy bra for their window. She says the bra has open conversation about cancer in her shop. Women have opened up to her about their experiences, in turn raising awareness and educating people.

Although all these woman agree, their main goal is to fighting breast cancer, they also say the campaign is about community and growing local business.

“The Elmwood Village is always trying to show what a community we are. Raising awareness is just another reason to come together and have people come here to show how much we really do care about our community,” Monaco said.
