Buffalo (WKBW) A tough preseason for Kevin Kolb continued against the Washington Redskins on Saturday. The quarterback left the game in the first quarter and did not return after sustaining a head injury. The Bills reported he was suffering from "concussion like symptoms" and was being evaluated by trainers.
The injury raises further questions about the Bills quarterback situation with the regular season opener two weeks away. Rookie EJ Manuel has been ruled out for the rest of the preseason after having a minor procedure on his knee. His status for the opener against the New England Patriots remains unclear. Jeff Tuel is the third quarterback currently on the Bills roster.
"I'm not going to sit up here and say everything is fine and dandy", said Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone. "It's a concern", Marrone continued while admitting the team will likely add a quarterback in coming days.
Kolb appeared to suffer the injury when he took a knee to the back of the head after a scramble in the first quarter. Kolb was on the ground when he was hit by Washington linebacker Brandon Jenkins.
Kolb was making his second start of the preseason. He finished 2 of 4 passing for 16 yards. He was also credited with 12 yards rushing.
This is not the first time that Kolb has dealt with a concussion.
He had a history of concussions during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles. He also missed the final three games of the 2011 season with the Arizona Cardinals because of a head injury.
Kolb missed the preseason opener for the Bills after sustaining a freak knee injury in training camp.
