NIAGARA FALLS, NY (WKBW) - Waves and waves of family, friends and members of the community made their way to the Sheraton Hotel in Niagara Falls Saturday in hopes of making a difference in the lives of a family struck by unimaginable tragedy.

About 700 people came to a special benefit held for the three children of Loretta Gates.

Police in Niagara Falls continue to search for Gates' killer, almost a month after additional dismembered remains belonging to the mother of three were found in Hyde Park.

"It's just amazing," said Arthur Gates, Loretta's father, of the turnout.

The family is hoping to raise up to $15,000 to go to a trust fund for the three children. Kyla, 11, Mariah, 5 and Peter, 4 still struggle to understand why their mother has not come home.

"[We] take it day by day. Some days are better than others, but we manage. We have a lot of love and support," says Donald Scott Martin, who is the father of Mariah and Peter.

The family is also planning on holding another benefit in November to raise money to fund a reward that would go to anyone providing information leading to the capture of the person responsible for Loretta's murder.
