BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - The story about the 19 firefighters who died while on the front lines of a wildfire in Arizona brings back painful memories for Jean Catanzaro-Hubbard of Buffalo.

"It just brings back all these memories of what these families have to go through," Catanzaro-Hubbard said as she recalled the events of December 27, 1983, the night her husband Mickey Catanzaro was killed while fighting a fire on Buffalo's east side.

"Just thinking of these families having to go through it with their children. It's a long, long journey," she said.

Mickey and four other firefighters, along with two civilians, were killed when a propane tank exploded on N. Division St.

The incident left Jean a widow and single mother to four boys at the age of 32.

"It's an ongoing thing that you never, ever forget and there's not a year, there's not ten years, there's not a lifetime that will ever erase these memories from your mind especially when things, like these accidents happen," she said.
