Animal Rights Activitists Protest Against Animal Abuser

SLOAN, N.Y. (WKBW) -Around a dozen protestors along with their four-legged companions, demonstrated outside the home of an alleged animal abuser Sunday.

Michael Tortorici, 58, was arraigned in Cheektowaga Town Court Friday on charges of felony aggravated animal cruelty after prosecutors said he beat his dog, Max, with a 2 by 4 and a bar stool before shooting the a German Sheppard with a shotgun on November 3rd.

Tortorici is also charged with discharging a firearm and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child because he fired the gun inside a home where there was a 12-year old boy present.

The activists want stricter punishments for crimes involving animal abuse and an animal abuse registry, similar to the sex offender registry
