Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW-TV) An ancient South American mummy, that belongs to the Buffalo Museum of Science, underwent a CT Scan at Roswell Park Cancer Institute Wednesday.

The mummy, which doctors determined is a child under two years old, has belonged to the museum since 1905, but little information about the history of the ancient artifact has ever been known.

Doctors, who donated their time to perform the scan and will continue to study their findings, hope to find out the sex of the child and what may have led to it's death.

Doctors said after the CT Scan that bones and even some tissue were very well preserved.

The complete findings of the scan will be revealed at the Mummies of the World: The Exhibition at the Buffalo Museum of Science in the coming weeks.
