TONAWANDA - NORTH TONAWANDA, NY ( WKBW ) Despite the rainy weather, The Canal Fest of the Tonawandas continues through the weekend. Tens of thousands of people have flocked to the summer tradition to enjoy the food, crafts, and entertainment.
On Tuesday, the annual Parade drew thousands from Tonawanda and North Tonawanda from Main and Minerva in Erie County - over the Renaissance Bridge to Niagara County.
This is one of the largest and finest parades in New York State.
“Sports Spectacular” was the theme of the 2010 Canal Fest Parade.
Of course, no Canal Fest parade would be complete without the annual “Mayor’s Ride,” in which the mayor of the losing side in the previous day’s “tug of war” between Tonawanda and North Tonawanda officials pushes the winning city’s mayor over the Delaware Street bridge in a wheelbarrow.
Tonawanda Mayor Ron Pilozzi had to cart NT Mayor Robert G. Ortt over the bridge.
Channel 7's Eyewitness News team was well represented in the parade with anchors Joanna Pasceri , and Keith Radford, along with weatherman Dave Cash and Sports Director Jeff Russo taking part in the procession.
NY State Senator George Maziarz stopped by our live weather location Tuesday night, along with NT Mayor Robert Ortt.
