West Seneca, NY (WKBW) - West Seneca Police were called to 242 Burch Ave after out of town friends became concerned the woman wasn't answering or returning calls.
Police forced their way into the residence and found 77-year-old Carol Quinn dead under "suspicious circumstances".
Residents living on Burch Ave say they now fear for their own safety.
"I have been living here for 29 years and nothing like this has every happened before," said Debbie Bald. "It's scary. All our neighbors are locking their doors. We are afraid."
Police are now searching for Quinn's son, 45-year-old Primitivo Cruz, who police initially interviewed and let go.
Now, investigators have questions for Cruz about some of the things found in Quinn's apartment, and are asking for the public's help in locating him.
Police say Cruz is a drifter and has no known address.
According to authorities, he was arrested at the apartment for an altercation between him and his mother about a week ago. Cruz was charged with harassment, and an order of protection was issued.
Police are awaiting results from Quinn's autopsy to determine the cause of death.
If you have any information on Cruz's whereabouts, West Seneca Police asks that you call them at (716) 674-2280
