Cheektowaga (WKBW) A scary crash Friday afternoon in Cheektowaga sent four people to the hospital, three of them children.

"We were in the house and we heard a big crash and we ran outside and there was this big hole in the car," witness Lillian Mueller said.

Around 3:30 in the afternoon, a large pickup truck struck a smaller car, caving in its side, and sending it over the curb.

"Four occupants of the car were rushed to Children's Hospital. One adult and three children. At this time we have no update on their medical status," Lieutenant Steven Berecz of the Cheektowaga Police Department said.

Three children were hurt, all under the age of ten.

"I was really scared for them, and I wanted them to be safe," Lillian Mueller said.

"Anytime there are children involved, there is more sense of alert, action by the first responders to get them taken care of," Lieutenant Berecz added.

Witnesses say a doctor and nurse from a nearby pediatrician's office ran out to help. Another witness says the truck driver also ran back, taking off his shirt to assist the injured children.

Police would not comment on the cause of the accident, but an accident investigation unit was on scene late Friday to reconstruct the crash as they continue trying to figure out exactly what happened. Officials say they do not believe this was caused by alcohol or distracted driving.

"Very serious, and hoping for the best that everyone is going to be ok," Lieutenant Berecz said.

The conditions of the driver and three children are unknown at this time. Cheektowaga Police are still investigating the crash.
