DEPEW, NY (WKBW) - Depew Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident at Broadway at Kokomo Avenue early Monday morning.

According to police, an SUV driven by a 35-year-old male from Lancaster crossed over the westbound lanes while heading east on Broadway, striking an 18-year-old girl waiting on the sidewalk at the metro bus stop.

The vehicle then crossed over both lanes and struck Penora's Pizza on the south side of Broadway.

The victim, Ashley Creighton was pronounced dead at the scene.

Damage to Penora's Pizza was extensive and will force the closure of the business for several days.

Police say the driver of the vehicle was returning home from working an overnight shift and believe he may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Police are not releasing the name of the driver and are continuing their investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
