Niagara Falls, N.Y. (WKBW-TV) - For weeks, family members have been searching for 67-year old John Adams.
Now- they know what happened to him.
Police say surveillance video-- discovered weeks after his disappearance-- showed that John entered a trash compactor to retrieve a smaller trash bin and was crushed to death.
It happened at the Niagara Center in downtown Niagara Falls where John worked and was last seen alive.
His family is outraged that police did not discover the video until last week.
"The question is why it took so long to look at those tapes-- if they had looked at those tapes-- we never would have had to go this far to know my brother was in that dumpster." Said Evie Shepherd, John's sister.
Niagara Falls Police did not return our phone calls but a representative from the Niagara Center says the video was not caught sooner because they had already searched the trash in the container shortly after John's disappearance-- and did not find any remains. It's now thought his remains were so compacted they were not noticeable.
His family says they were told because no remains were first found, John's remains and the trash were sent to be incinerated.
