Sabres issue qualifying offers to seven restricted free agents

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Seven restricted free agents have been extended qualifying offers from the Buffalo Sabres.

On Tuesday, the team announced they've issues offers to forwards Remi Elie, Zemugus Girgensons, Johan Larsson, Evan Rodrigues and C.J. Smith. They also issued offers to defenseman Jake McCabe and goaltender Linus Ullmark.

Elie, 24, played in 16 games with the Sabres last season recording just one assist. He was mostly a healthy scratch and was later waived by the Sabres. Upon clearing, he was reassigned to the Rochester Americans.

Girgensons, 25, played in 72 games with the Sabres last season scoring five goals and adding 13 assists. He also ranked second on the team in total penalty-kill ice time.

Larsson, 26, played in 73 games last season with the Sabres scoring six goals and adding eight assists. He was also third on the team in shorthanded ice time.

Rodrigues, 25, played in 74 games for the Sabres last season scoring nine goals and adding 20 assists. Rodrigues' 29 points made him the Sabres eighth-leading scorer last season, finishing with the same amount of points as Kyle Okposo.

Smith, 24, played in 11 games last season with the Sabres scoring two goals (including his first career NHL goal). He began the season with the Rochester Americans.

McCabe, 25, played in 59 games with the Sabres last season scoring four goals and adding 10 assists. The Sabres defenseman missed most of March with an upper-body injury before returning for the final four games of the season.

Ullmark, 25, finished with a 15-14-5 record last season in Buffalo. While with the Sabres in 2018-2019, Ullmark posted 3.11 goals against average and a .905 save percentage.

The free agency period begins Monday, July 1st.
