Sabres Back on the Ice

By Shawn Stepner

AMHERST, NY - The Sabres hopped back on the ice for practice on Monday. Coming off a sweep of their two-game road trip in Florida and Tampa Bay, Buffalo now gets ready for a visit to New Jersey.

The atmosphere around the rink was loose and fun as the Sabres find themselves with a 6-1-1 record and atop the Northeast division.

"I think when you win you have fun. It's been a great atmosphere around here," said Sabres Captain Craig Rivet. "There is a lot of work going into practices and the style we want to play. "

It seems the only stress the Sabres may (and we emphasize 'may') be feeling is regarding what to do with rookie defenseman Tyler Myers. The franchise must make a decision on whether to keep the 19-year-old or send him back to his junior team following Wednesday's game in New Jersey.

"We said we are going to evaluate (Myers) after 'x' number of games and that evaluation just keeps going on. That's everything. How he plays, acts, practice habits, everything," said Head Coach Lindy Ruff. He also stated there has not been any official decision on Myers as of Monday afternoon.

Defenseman Andrej Sekera practiced on Monday. Ruff says he is "getting better" from his rib injury. Defenseman Toni Lydman missed practice with a groin injury.
