BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The Buffalo Sabres agreed to terms with
University of Denver defenseman Chris Butler Sunday.
Butler, Buffalo's fourth round pick in 2005, just completed his
junior season at Denver, where he had three goals and 17 points. He
was named to the All America second team on Friday after leading
the Pioneers with 110 blocked shots as well as guiding the team's
No. 1 power-play unit.
Butler finishes his three-year collegiate career with 20 goals
and 66 points in 115 games.
The Sabres are also interested in signing Boston College star
Nathan Gerbe as well as Tim Kennedy from Michigan State. Gerbe, a
2005 fifth round pick, helped the Eagles capture the NCAA
championship on Saturday after leading the nation in scoring with
35 goals and 32 assists. Kennedy, acquired by Buffalo in 2005 after
he was picked by Washington in the sixth round, played a major role
on the Spartans' 2007 title team.
