Stafford's OT Winner Beats Wild

ST. PAUL, MN - (WKBW) Drew Stafford scored 46 seconds into overtime to lift the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild. The win gives the Sabres 72 points on the season to take over the eighth, and final, playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Buffalo sits one point ahead of Carolina, with one game in-hand.

Jason Pominville scored the lone first period goal. Rob Niedermayer scored his first goal of the season 2:04 into the second period to give the Sabres a 2-0 lead.

The Wild countered with goals by Warren Peters and Mareck Zidlicky to tie the game before the end of the frame.

Stafford's overtime winner is his 26th goal of the season.

Jhonas Enroth got the start in goal for the Sabres making 24 saves.

The Sabres next visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday.
