Buffalo (WKBW.com) The best way to gain ground in the standings is to beat the teams above you. After fumbling away a victory in Boston last week, the Sabres battled back for a 3-2 victory over the Bruins Wednesday night. Drew Stafford led the way with a hat trick in the win, Derek Roy had three assists on the night. Ryan Miller had 30 saves.

In his return from a shoulder injury, Stafford tied the game in the first period when he scored on the power play. The forward batted home a puck that Derek Roy had a couple of chances at to knot things at 1.

Boston's Michael Ryder gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead in the third period when he beat Ryan Miller on the power play. Stafford would pick up his second of the night just 32 seconds later, to tie the game once again. He would finish off his hat trick on the power play on a goal again assisted by Derek Roy.

The Sabres improved to 4-1-1 in their last six games with the victory. The team heads to Florida for a Friday game against the Panthers.
