Sabres rally, topple Tampa Bay

Tampa (WKBW.com) The Buffalo Sabres used a five goal third period to knock off the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night 7-4.



Drew Stafford led the way for the Sabres with three goals, earning his third hat trick in the last 19 games.



Thomas Vanek scored twice. Tim Connolly and Jordan Leopold also scored for the Sabres who pulled within 4 points of the Carolina Hurricanes for 8th place in the Eastern Conference with the victory.



Ryan Miller made 30 saves in the win.



The Sabres trailed 3-1 in the second period when Vanek would pull Buffalo within a goal with his 20th of the season.



Leopold would tie the game at 3 at the 4:26 mark of the third on a controversial goal. Lightning goaltender Dwayne Roloson was run into by Stafford on the play. The contact was ruled incidental and the goal stood. The Sabres took over after that.



Buffalo went on to score four goals in three minutes in thirteen seconds to push the lead to 7-3. Vincent Lecavalier scored for Tampa Bay at 16:19 in the third on the power play to make it 7-4. .
The Sabres play the Florida Panthers on Thursday.
