February 17, 2011 Updated Feb 17, 2011 at 12:42 AM EDT

Buffalo (WKBW.com) The Buffalo Sabres opened up a six game home stand with a 2-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night. Joey Crabb scored the game winning goal for Toronto short-handed in the second period.

Paul Gaustad would score the Sabres only goal in the third period.
Ryan Miller would make 28 saves in his return to the net. Phil Kessel opened the scoring the Leafs in the second period.

The loss proved to be a missed opportunity for the Sabres. The Carolina Hurricanes lost to New Jersey on Wednesday, meaning the Sabres would have moved into 8th place in the Eastern Conference with a victory.

The Sabres host the St. Louis Blues on Friday.
