Sabres lose second straight to Tampa Bay

Buffalo (WKBW.com) The Sabres watched an early two goal lead slip away on Tuesday night in a 4-3 loss to Tampa Bay. It was the Sabres second straight loss, both at the hands of the Lightning. The setback pushed Buffalo to 5-3 on the season, and 0-2 at the First Niagara Center.



The Sabres came flying out of the gate in the first period when Thomas Vanek would give Buffalo a 1-0 lead with his seventh goal of the season. Brad Boyes would give the Sabres a 2-0 lead just 35 seconds later with his first goal of the year.



Tampa Bay would quickly rebound. Vinny Lecavalier cut the lead to one, before Nate Thompson snuck one past Ryan Miller to tie things at two. Thompson shot the puck from behind the net, it went off the skate of Sabres defenseman Christian Ehrhoff and past Miller to ties things at two.



Steven Stamkos gave the Lightning at 3-2 lead in the second. Ryan Malone would make it 4-2 Tampa Bay in the third before Nathan Gerbe scored his second of the year with :50 left in the game.



Mathieu Garon made 36 saves for Tampa Bay.
The Sabres host Columbus on Thursday.
