The Thrashers would rally to tie things up in the second. Nik Antropov would score on the power play to cut the Buffalo lead to one. Alexander Burmistrov then tied things up at the 13:33 mark of the second. The Sabres took six penalties in the period.

Atlanta would take their first lead of the game in the third Niclas Bergfors would score his second of the season to make it 3-2 Thrashers. The play came after Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller was unable to stop a puck behind the Buffalo net, Johnny Oduya then put it out front for Bergfors.

The Sabres were able to atleast salvage a point, Derek Roy scored with seven seconds left in the third to tie the game at three, and force overtime.
