Buffalo (WKBW.com) Tyler Myers and Thomas Vanek both scored, and Ryan Miller made 30 saves, as the Buffalo Sabres knocked off the New York Islanders on Tuesday 2-to-1. The win moved Buffalo into 12th place in the Eastern Conference, six points out from the eighth and final playoff spot.

The Sabres jumped out in front just 1:21 into the first period when Myers pounded home a rebound for his 6th goal of the year. Buffalo would extend that lead just 3:41 into the second period when Derek Roy set up Thomas Vanek for his 22nd goal.

But the star was Miller, who came up with several big saves in the victory, including back-to-back stops in the second period on a breakaway. The highlight an acrobatic save on Josh Bailey to keep the Sabres ahead 2-to-1.

The Islanders would pull within a goal at 14:52 of the third when Frans Nielsen would score his 13th of the season, before the Sabres held on for a second straight victory.

Sabres defenseman Robyn Regehr left the game with an "upper body injury" but is expected to be ok. Head Coach Lindy Ruff labeled Regehr "day-to-day" after the game. The Sabres host Boston on Friday.
