Sabres fall to Red Wings

April 8, 2014 Updated Apr 8, 2014 at 10:22 PM EDT

Buffalo (WKBW) Forward Zemgus Girgensons scored a pair of goals, and Matt Hackett came up with 33 saves but it wasn't enough as the Buffalo Sabres fell to the Detroit Red Wings 4-2 on Tuesday night. It was the Sabres fourth straight loss.

Girgensons gave the Sabres a 1-0 lead in the second period. His seventh goal of the season came on a deflection of a Cody Hodgson pass. Girgensons then scored his second of the game at 17:49 of the third period. The forward skated his way through defenders on a highlight reel tally to cut Detroit's lead to 3-2. It wasn't enough.

Brendan Smith, Darren Helm and David Legwand all scored for Detroit. Pavel Datsyuk added an empty net goal for the Red Wings.
