Denver (WKBW.com) David Jones scored a power play goal with 42.9 seconds left in overtime to lift the Colorado Avalanche over the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 on Tuesday night. The loss came in the start of a three game west coast road trip for the Sabres.

Buffalo trailed 2-1 in the third period before battling back to take the lead. Jochen Hecht and Steve Montador scored just over a minute apart to put the Sabres up 3-2. Colorado forward Matt Duchene scored 31 seconds later to tie things up at 3 in a wild third period.

Thomas Vanek scored his 15th of the season on the power play in the first. The Sabres continue their road trip in San Jose on Thursday.
