Buffalo (WKBW.com) Close, but no cigar. The Buffalo Sabres battled the top team in the Eastern Conference, the New York Rangers, into the shoot-out on Wednesday night but came up short in a 1-0 loss.
Rangers Captain Ryan Callahan beat Ryan Miller in the 5th round of the shoot-out to secure the victory.

It was an otherwise fantastic night for Miller who made 29 saves in what goes down as a shutout for the goaltender, but the his teammates missed plenty of opportunities to put the game away.

Derek Roy had a wide open net late in overtime but couldn't bury a backhanded chance past Henrik Lundqvist. Lundqvist was also fantastic on Wednesday, he finished with 34 saves in the win.

The loss snapped the Sabres two game winning streak, but the team has earned 5 out of a possible 6 points in the last three games. Buffalo plays at the New York Islanders on Saturday.
