Buffalo (WKBW.com) Ryan Miller made 29 saves, and Cody McCormick had a goal and an assist, to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Friday night. The win was the Sabres second straight, and kept the team within 3 points of 8th place in the Eastern Conference.

Mike Grier, Jochen Hecht and Thomas Vanek also scored for Buffalo in the victory.

The Sabres took the lead in the first period when Grier scored on a breakaway. Grier flashed a couple of nifty moves before beating Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson. McCormick had the assist on the play.

McCormick would then get a goal of his own in the second period. His 8th of the season made it 2-1 Buffalo. Jason Spezza would pull the Senators back within a goal, beating Ryan Miller on a breakaway of his own.

The Sabres would go back up a pair when Hecht would score his 10th of the year in the third period. Hecht banged home a rebound off of a Drew Stafford shot to make it 3-1 Buffalo.

But the Senators wouldn't go away. Milan Michalek scored at 18:05 of the third to pull Ottawa back within a goal. The Senators had a great chance to tie it with under a minute to play in the period but Miller closed the door with a big save. The play resulted in Vanek scoring an empty net goal on the other end.

The Sabres finish off a six game home stand on Saturday against Detroit.
