Ottawa (WKBW.com) The Buffalo Sabres opened their fortieth anniversary season with a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators on Friday. Derek Roy scored a pair of goals in the victory.

Roy opened the scoring in the first period when he made a nifty move to beat Ottawa goaltender Pascal Leclaire. The Sabres outshot the Senators 29-12 through the first two periods but would give up a late goal in the second. Ottawa's Jarkko Ruutu set up Chris Kelly at the 19:11 mark of the second to tie the game at one.

The Sabres would take the lead in the third on the power play. Tyler Ennis set up Roy for his second goal of the night. Roy bounced it off the skate of Leclaire from behind the net for the eventual game winner.

Ryan Miller had 25 saves in the victory for Buffalo. The Sabres host the New York Rangers on Saturday in the Home Opener at the HSBC Arena.
