New York (WKBW.com) Goaltender Ryan Miller made 29 saves, and new forward Brad Boyes scored in his Buffalo debut, as the Sabres knocked off the New York Rangers 3-2 at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night. The win came as the Sabres began a season long 7 game road trip.

The victory moved the 9th place Sabres within 3 points of the 7th place Rangers. The 8th place Carolina Hurricanes also won on Tuesday night, so the Sabres remain 2 points out of the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers opened the scoring on the power play in the first period. His blast from the blueline went off a Rangers player and past Henrik Lundqvist for the 1-0 lead.

The Sabres would strike again with the man advantage in the second period. Paul Gaustad would set up Boyes for his 13th goal of the season, and first with the Sabres, to make it 2-0 Buffalo. Boyes was acquired in a trade with the St. Louis Blues late Sunday night.

Jochen Hecht scored the other Sabres goal in the third period. Erik Christensen and Artem Anisimov scored for the Rangers.

Miller was named the second star in the game after coming up big with a flurry of third period saves to seal the victory.

The Sabres play the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night.
