Buffalo (WKBW.com) Thomas Vanek scored his 6th career hat trick to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night. The win knocked the Sabres magic number to clinch a playoff spot down to one.

Tim Connolly scored the other Buffalo goal. Jhonas Enroth made 23 saves to improve to 3-0-1 in four starts filling in for the injured Ryan Miller.

The Sabres now sit in 7th place in the Eastern Conference, and lead 9th place Carolina by 5 points. Buffalo can clinch a playoff spot as early as Wednesday night with a Hurricanes loss against Detroit.

The Sabres have two games remaining. Buffalo hosts Philadelphia in the regular season home finale on Friday.
