Newark, NJ (WKBW.com) There were no guarantees, especially with the way his team had been playing, but Lindy Ruff's 1000th career game as the head coach of the Sabres goes down in the books as a 5-4 win.

The Sabres earned a 5-4 shootout win over the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night. The victory marked the first time this season that the Sabres (5-9-2) have won back to back games.

Derek Roy scored the eventual game winning goal in the fourth round of the shootout when he beat Johan Hedberg to put the Sabres ahead.
The Devils Iyla Kovalchuk had a chance to tie it, but lost control of the puck while skating in on Jhonas Enroth. Kovalchuk never got a shot off, giving the Sabres the victory.

Roy also added his 8th goal of the season in regulation. Jason Pominville, Tyler Myers and Tyler Ennis also scored for the Sabres in a back and forth game.

Buffalo plays the New York Rangers on Thursday night.
