BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Drew Stafford netted a hat trick, while Jason Pominville had a four-point night, as the Sabres beat the Boston Bruins 7-6 in a shootout.

The Bruins owned a 4-3 lead after 20 minutes. Pominville, Thomas Vanek and Stafford scored first period goals for the Sabres. Andrew Ference, Dennis Seidenberg, Brad Marchand and Zdeno Chara (shorthanded) scored in the first for Boston.

The second period was all Sabres as Stafford and Pominville (power play) netted their second goals of the night, leading Buffalo to a 5-4 advantage through 40 minutes.

After Tyler Seguin and Steve Kampfer beat Sabres goalie Ryan Miller to put the Sabres in a 6-5 third period hole, Stafford scored his third of the game with 28 seconds remaining to send the contest into overtime.

After the OT session remained scoreless, the first five shooters of the shootout scored. As the sixth shooter, Chara missed to send the Sabres to victory.

Buffalo now embarks on a three-game road trip. The Sabres visit Colorado on Tuesday.

NOTES: Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask was pulled after the first period in favor of Tim Thomas.

Late hockey writer Jim Kelley and former Sabre Alexander Mogilny were inducted into the Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame prior to the game.
