Sabres Sigh Scott, Let Boyes Go

July 1, 2012 Updated Jul 1, 2012 at 10:34 PM EDT

BUFFALO (WKBW) Plain and simple. The Sabres made two moves on day one of NHL free agency. They signed one player, and let one go.

The team made their signing official just after nine o'clock, announcing that the team agreed to a one year contract with forward John Scott. At 6'8" and 270 pounds, Scott is simply a big man. He spent last season with both the Chicago Blackhawks and the New York Rangers.

The other move the team did make was parting ways with Brad Boyes. The 30 year old forward is now a member of the New York Islanders, signing a one year deal worth a reported one million dollars. Last season Boyes scored eight goals on the year for the Sabres.

NHL free agency continues on Monday.
