Buffalo (WKBW.com) Sabres Head Coach Lindy Ruff says he was offered a contract extension by the team last fall, but turned it down.

"It's a situation I'd rather not talk about", Ruff told reporters on Tuesday. "They were gracious in what they offered me".

Ruff, the longest tenured head coach in the NHL, confirmed he is the final year of his current contract.

When asked if he wants to stay with the organization? "Yeah, I want to stay", Ruff said with a smile.

Ruff says he has not told prospective owner Terry Pegula that he wants to remain with the organization as of yet. "We had a conversation about hockey, that is as far as I'll go.

Eyewitness Sports will have more on the Sabres at 5, and 6.
