Toronto (WKBW) It was a night the Sabres would like to forget. But it may be staying with them for some time in the future. Thomas Vanek left the Sabres Leafs game with an upper body injury and did not return Thursday night. The Sabres would fall 3-2.

The Sabres opened the scoring with a deflected goal by Jason Pominville in the second period. It would be answered by a David Steckel snap shot. Later in the period, Phil Kessel would find the back of the net in a breakaway after a Sabre defenseman fell on the play.

In the third, the Sabres would roar back with a Derek Roy wrist shot to tie things at two. But the game would be decided by a point shot from Nazem Kadri, that beat Ryan Miller and would end things for the Sabres. They fall 3-2 to Toronto.

The Sabres stay put in the standings with 35 points, good for 11th in the East and second last in the Northeast Division. The team has off for the holiday, and play at home on Monday night against the Washington Capitals.
