Sabres Effort Not Good Enough To Beat Cup Champs

October 17, 2010 Updated Oct 17, 2010 at 10:20 AM EDT

EYEWITNESS SPORTS ( WKBW ) The Buffalo Sabres 40th Anniversary season is off to a slow start.

After a loss at home Friday against Montreal, the team whipped into the windy city to take on the Blackhawks.

The result? The Sabres lost in Chicago with the Blackhawks scoring 4 goals to the Sabres 3 in front of a sold out United Center.

Patrick Sharp scored two goals for the Blackhawks, his fourth goal in two games. Marian Hossa and Dave Bolland also scored for the Blackhawks.

Paul Gaustad, Drew Stafford and Cody McCromick scored for Buffalo who out-shot the Blackhawks 41-21. Patrick Lalime played in his first game of the season and did relatively well making 17 saves.

Once again the power play was not able to produce a goal in six opportunities. The man-advantage has been an area of concern since last years playoff series verse Boston.

The Buffalo Sabres have some time off before their next start. The team will try to snap their five-game losing when they travel to Atlanta on Wednesday.
