UNIONDALE, NY (WKBW) Nathan Gerbe tallied a goal and an assist in the Sabres' three-goal third period as Buffalo beat the New York Islanders 5-3 on Sunday.
Paul Gaustad opened the scoring for the Sabres just 15 seconds into the first period.
After Matt Moulson tied things in the second period, Tyler Ennis scored to give Buffalo the 2-1 lead. Ennis was credited with the goal when Isles defenseman Dylan Reese slapped the puck behind New York goaltender Rick DiPietro.
Moulson struck again before the period's end to tie things at two apiece.
The third period belonged to Buffalo. Nathan Gerbe struck early on the power play. Gerbe then set up Tyler Myers to give the Sabres a 4-2 lead. Myers goal was actually kicked in by the Islanders' Josh Bailey.
After Jack Hillen pulled the Isles within one, Jason Pominville hit an empty net.
Ryan Miller made 31 saves for the win.
The Sabres next visit Ottawa on Tuesday. The matchup against the Senators will be their final game before the all-star break.
