CALGARY, ALBERTA (WKBW) - Four unanswered Flames goals were enough to send the Sabres to a 5-2 loss in Calgary. It was Buffalo's first game since the Christmas break and first game since learning of Derek Roy's season-ending quadriceps tendon injury.
Sabres forward Drew Stafford opened the scoring in the first period with his tenth goal of the season. But then things went south for his team.
Olli Jokinen and Jerome Iginla scored in the second period to give Calgary a 2-1 lead through 40 minutes. In the third, former Sabre Ales Kotalik tallied his first of the season to make it 3-1 Flames before David Moss made it 4-1.
Sabres winger Patrick Kaleta scored to bring Buffalo within two with 3:05 to play in regulation. Tom Kostopoulos notched a power play marker before the night was done to finish the scoring.
Ryan Miller made 28 saves in the loss.
The Sabres visit Edmonton on Tuesday night.
