Washington DC (WKBW) It is beginning to sound redundant. The Sabres lose and another player goes down to injury. It happened Wednesday night in New Jersey, and it happened again on Friday night in Washington. The Sabres lost 3-1 and Christian Erhoff left the game with an upper body injury.

The Sabres gave up the first goal of the game in the first period, after an Alexander Ovechkin pass was deflected by a defenseman stick. The puck was sent right into the net, past Ryan Miller.

Things didn't get better for the Sabres in the second, as a break with tic-tac passes found Nikolas Backstrom's stick and then the back of the net. The Sabres would score one late in the second, after a Thomas Vanek shot and a rebound in the crease for Jochen Hecht was hammered home.

The visitors had their chances, but could not bury them, as Ovechkin put the nail in the coffin on a one timer blast of a shot that sealed the 3-1 win for the Capitals.

The Sabres have lost the last two, and five straight road games. They now travel back home to face Ottawa on New Year's Eve.
