Raleigh (WKBW.com) Sabres forward Derek Roy suffered an "upper body" injury on Saturday night in Carolina, but that's just the start of the teams problems.

The Sabres came up empty with a chance to win back-to-back games for the first time in almost two months losing 4-to-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes, a team that entered Friday night as the worst team in the Eastern Conference.

With the game tied at 2 in the third period Chad LaRose scored the eventual game winning goal for the Hurricanes. LaRose beat Ryan Miller skating in on a 2-on-1 to make it 3-2 Carolina at the 8:10 mark of the third.

After missing several great chances to get on the board in the first period, the Sabres play catch up over the last two periods. Thomas Vanek tied the game at 1 in the second period with his 19th goal of the year. Jason Pominville tied the game at 2 with his 14th of the season at the 6:12 mark of the third.

Eric Staal had a goal and two assists for the Hurricanes. Brandon Sutter added an empty net goal at 18:29 of the third for Carolina.

For the Sabres Ryan Miller made 31 saves in the loss. Tyler Myers led all Sabres in ice time with 19:36 in his return to the lineup. Myers had missed the previous 19 games with a broken wrist.

Sabres Head Coach LIndy Ruff said after the loss that Derek Roy will miss some time with the "upper body" injury he suffered in the first period. The Sabres host Winnipeg on Saturday.
