April 5, 2012 Updated Apr 5, 2012 at 9:56 PM EDT

Philadelphia (WKBW.com) The Buffalo Sabres hopes of making the playoffs came to an end on Thursday night. The Sabres 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, coupled with the Washington Capitals 4-2 win over the Florida Panthers, eliminated the Sabres from postseason contention.

Ville Leino scored the only goal of the game for Buffalo. Leino pushed home a rebound for a 1-0 lead at 17:56 in the second. But the Flyers answered with two goals in the third. Marc-Andre Bourdon tied the game at 6:05 of the third. Matt Read then beat Ryan Miller for the eventual game winning goal at 15:39. Read blew past Buffalo defenseman Robyn Regehr at the blueline, skated in alone and beat Miller for the 2-1 Flyers lead.

The Sabres will finish the regular season in 9th place in the Eastern Conference. The team plays at Boston on Saturday in the regular season finale.
