WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKBW) - Alex Ovechkin scored 3:19 into overtime to give the Washington Capitals a 5-4 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night. The game went to OT after Washington's Jason Arnott scored a power play goal with 51.9 seconds left in regulation.

Drew Stafford scored two goals for the Sabres to bring his season total to 30. Mike Knuble scored a pair for the Caps.

Washington jumped out to a quick two-goal lead in the first period. Knuble and Alexander Semin scored in the first 4:41 of the game. However Thomas Vanek and Stafford responded with goals by the end of the opening frame.

It stayed tied at two until Paul Gaustad scored 12:35 into the third period. After Knuble tied the game, Stafford scored his second goal of the night with 3:21 remaining in regulation.

With Ryan Miller day-to-day with an upper-body injury, Jhonas Enroth got the start in net for the Sabres. He made 30 saves.

The Sabres travel to Carolina on Sunday for a 5pm faceoff. The Hurricanes sit two points behind the Sabres. Buffalo is in seventh place in the Eastern Conference.
