BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Ryan Miller's perfect night helped the Sabres beat the New Jersey Devils on Saturday by the final of 2-0.

Miller made 30 saves for his fifth shutout of the season, and second in three games. His five shutouts matches a career high.

Nathan Gerbe and Thomas Vanek scored first period goals for Buffalo.

The Sabres now hold a five-point lead over Carolina for eighth place in the Eastern Conference. The Hurricanes lost to Tampa Bay on Saturday 4-2. Both the Sabres and 'Canes have seven games remaining in the regular season.

Buffalo is now only two points shy of both the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers for sixth place. The Sabres have one game in-hand on both clubs.

Next up for Buffalo is a visit to Toronto on Tuesday.
