NASHVILLE, TN (WKBW) In his first game back from a concussion/neck injury Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller was run over by Predators forward Jordin Tootoo. The Sabres ran out of Nashville with a 3-2 win.
Miller returned to the ice for the first time since being hit by Boston's Milan Lucic, in open ice, on November 12th. In the second period, with the Sabres leading 2-0, Tootoo drove to the net with the puck and ran directly into Miller. Before the hit, Tootoo was pokechecked by Buffalo defenseman Christian Ehrhoff. The Nashville winger then continued toward Miller and jumped as he barreled into him.
Miller immediately started throwing punches at Tootoo. Several Sabres came to their goalie's aid as well. Paul Gaustad was one of the players in the scrum. The Buffalo center suffered an upper-body injury and did not return to action. Tootoo was given a five-minute charging penalty and a game misconduct.
Luke Adam and Zack Kassian scored first period goals for the Sabres.
Craig Smith scored on a third period power play for Nashville before Tyler Ennis notched his first goal of the season to give the Sabres a 3-1 advantage. The Preds' David Legwand scored with an extra attacker but Buffalo was able to hang on for the win.
Miller, who played the entire game, made 32 saves to pick up the victory. Anders Lindback stopped eleven shots for the Predators.
The Sabres next host Philadelphia on Wednesday.
